Volunteer Facilitator Application
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the We Speak NYC (WSNYC) program at the NYC Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs (MOIA). WSNYC is building a network of volunteers, organizations, and immigrants who want to practice English through weekly conversation classes. As a volunteer, you can help adult immigrants practice conversational English and learn about City services by leading a conversation group in a local community organization. Please visit our website and learn more about WSNYC and MOIA before signing up below. Once you sign up to lead a conversation group, you will be invited to a first training. Upon completion of the first training, you will be considered a trained volunteer, in which you commit to:
Receiving two 3-hour trainings to lead conversation groups
Leading a conversation group at a location that matches your availability for 2 hours once a week for 7-10 weeks.
Being paired with another volunteer (when possible) to facilitate a group of about 20 adult immigrants.
Receiving and using free classroom materials.
Representing a City Agency and showcasing city services to help empower immigrants
